The Trump Imprint: How the President Forged a Path to a Gaza Deal

The potential peace deal for Gaza bears the distinct imprint of President Donald Trump’s transactional and hardline approach to foreign policy. From its core bargain to its enforcement mechanism, the framework reflects a strategy that has seemingly broken a two-year-old stalemate.
The deal’s structure is a classic Trump-style transaction: a clear, tangible exchange. Israel gives a specific military pullback (to the “yellow line”), and Hamas gives a specific deliverable (all hostages). This simplicity avoids the open-ended negotiations that have failed in the past. Trump himself has branded it a “great deal for Israel.”
The enforcement mechanism is equally characteristic of the President’s approach. Rather than relying on international consensus or resolutions, Trump has issued a direct, personal threat to Hamas of “complete obliteration.” This creates a powerful, if blunt, incentive for compliance.
This approach has seemingly yielded results where others have failed. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed Hamas has “basically” agreed to the proposal, and the deal is “90 per cent done.” Trump also claims to have secured the backing of Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu, creating the necessary alignment.
Whether the deal holds or not, its creation showcases the Trump imprint on modern diplomacy. By combining a straightforward bargain with an overwhelming threat, he has forged a unique and potentially historic path to ending the Gaza war.
