A new chapter for Gaza may be beginning after Hamas made sweeping concessions on Saturday, opening the door to potential stability in the war-ravaged region. The group agreed to release all Israeli hostages and cede administrative control as part of a landmark peace deal brokered by Donald Trump.
This decision was announced following a high-pressure campaign from Trump, who had set a Sunday deadline for Hamas to respond to his comprehensive 20-point plan. In its statement, Hamas affirmed its readiness for immediate negotiations on a permanent ceasefire and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces.
The most transformative concession is the agreement on future governance. Hamas has approved a plan to transfer power to a “Palestinian body of independents (technocrats),” a move designed to create a neutral, stable government capable of leading reconstruction efforts with broad international and regional support.
While these steps mark a monumental shift, Hamas was clear that its agreement is not a blanket acceptance of the entire plan. The group specified that long-term political issues, including the final status of Gaza and Palestinian national rights, are subject to further consultations and must align with international law.
Reacting to the news, Donald Trump expressed his conviction that a breakthrough had been achieved and called for an immediate halt to Israeli bombing. These concessions have created a tangible opportunity to move beyond the cycle of violence and write a new, more peaceful chapter for Gaza.
