Vietnam, Singapore Enhance Partnership with Focus on Technology and Innovation

As Việt Nam and Singapore aim to enhance their political trust and strategic coordination, they are focusing on advancing cooperation in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This intention comes in light of Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm’s upcoming state visit to Singapore, scheduled from May 29 to 31. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường, the bilateral relations between these nations have transcended traditional economic ties, increasingly concentrating on future-oriented sectors that promise long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.

In 2025, the relationship between the two countries was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership, signifying the growing political trust and shared strategic interests. Singapore continues to be one of Việt Nam’s most vital economic partners and holds the position as the second-largest foreign investor. The nation has thousands of active projects across various sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. A prominent symbol of this cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is evolving towards greener and smarter industrial models in line with sustainable development goals.

Both nations are committed to increasing their collaboration in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are being made to connect innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in both countries. Economic cooperation is anticipated to remain a focal point during Tô Lâm’s visit, with an emphasis on deepening collaboration in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development.

The introduction of technology initiatives like “Tech Connect” is expected to forge stronger connections between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies, specifically in areas including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. Furthermore, Tô Lâm’s visit is likely to bolster the next generation of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Việt Nam.

During his stay, Tô Lâm is set to deliver a keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, which is one of the region’s foremost security forums. Vietnamese officials regard this invitation as an acknowledgment of Việt Nam’s growing international stature and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
