The Dutch cyclist finished 1 minute and 18 seconds ahead of her closest rival, Kasia Niewiadoma. Vollering made her breakthrough on the Col d’Èze, pulling away from Niewiadoma with approximately 600 meters remaining on the last ascent. Despite Niewiadoma’s repeated efforts to gain an advantage during the climbs, she was unable to outpace Vollering.
The victory was marred by an ongoing dispute between the two competitors over tactical maneuvers during Saturday’s stage. Niewiadoma alleged that Célia Gery, a member of Vollering’s team, obstructed her during a crucial segment of the race, fueling controversy and discussions leading up to the final stage. However, Niewiadoma recognized Vollering’s formidable performance, acknowledging her strength and expressing her desire to maintain fair competition.
Vollering expressed that she wished her triumph to highlight her team’s deserving win based on their sporting prowess. Meanwhile, Niewiadoma secured second place overall, continuing her impressive streak of podium finishes in recent editions of the Tour.
The concluding stage also proved challenging for Marlen Reusser, who encountered a setback after crashing during her descent of the Col d’Èze. Starting the day in third place overall, the Swiss rider experienced a significant drop to 14th in the general classification following the incident.
