Palace Seeks Transparent, Tech-Driven Impeachment Proceedings Against Duterte

The government of the Philippines is looking forward to a just and impartial impeachment trial for Vice President Sara Duterte, according to a statement from Malacañang on Tuesday. This comes amid public concerns surrounding the recent shifts in the Senate’s leadership.

Claire Castro, the Palace’s Press Officer, emphasized that the impeachment proceedings are now under the jurisdiction of the Senate. She also reaffirmed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will not be intervening in the process, ensuring that it remains an independent legislative matter.

“Hopefully, if this goes to the Senate, our senators will be fair judges, because this is for the people,” Castro stated at a press briefing. Her remarks underscored the expectation for a fair trial and a commitment to democratic principles.

Castro further explained that the responsibility for the impeachment case lies with the House of Representatives, which has already made its decision. She highlighted that handling such cases is within the legislative branch’s duties and is not part of the President’s mandate.
