Heng Swee Keat Appointed SIT’s First Chancellor, Boosting Tech Innovation

Heng Swee Keat, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, has been appointed as the inaugural chancellor of the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), commencing his role on June 1, 2026. His appointment marks a significant development for the university, with Heng set to serve a five-year term until May 31, 2031. In this capacity, he will hold the highest ceremonial position at SIT, acting as the university’s ambassador and presiding over major events like graduation ceremonies, while also representing the institution at key engagements both domestically and internationally.

Heng’s current positions include chairman of the National Research Foundation, a director at GIC, and a member of its Investment Strategies Committee. His previous roles in the Singapore government include serving as Deputy Prime Minister from 2019 to 2025, Education Minister from 2011 to 2015, and Finance Minister from 2015 to 2021.
