During his visit to Brunei for Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s 80th birthday celebrations, Singapore’s Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the Sultan underscored their dedication to enhancing the bilateral relationship between their nations. The leaders pointed to significant future milestones, such as the 50th anniversary of their defense cooperation in 2026 and the 60th anniversary of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement in 2027, as key areas of focus in their ongoing partnership.
The discussions between the two leaders delved into several critical areas of collaboration, emphasizing the importance of expanding efforts in energy, food security, and supply chain resilience. They also highlighted the significance of fostering exchanges between their citizens, aiming to bolster people-to-people connections that strengthen the social fabric between Singapore and Brunei.
In addition to meeting with the Sultan, Lee engaged with Brunei’s Crown Prince and senior ministers to explore initiatives designed to fortify connections among future leaders and youth in both countries. These talks aimed at ensuring that the strong ties between Singapore and Brunei continue to thrive through the next generation.
Lee’s visit also included participation in official birthday events, where he interacted with personnel from the Singapore Armed Forces who are stationed in Brunei for training purposes. Moreover, he took the opportunity to visit a Singapore-operated aquaculture farm, showcasing Singapore’s investment and collaboration in Brunei’s agricultural sector.
