China has issued a warning to the Philippines, urging it to cease what Beijing describes as provocative actions in the South China Sea. This comes after a recent supply mission by the Philippines to a grounded vessel at Ren’ai Jiao, also known internationally as Second Thomas Shoal.
According to Chinese authorities, the Philippine vessel proceeded with the mission despite receiving warnings from Beijing. In response, the Chinese coast guard monitored the supply ship and issued further warnings during the operation. China maintains that the actions taken by its coast guard were within legal bounds and necessary to protect its territorial sovereignty and maritime interests.
Beijing has accused the Philippines of violating previous commitments under the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, suggesting that such actions could threaten regional peace and stability. This declaration is intended to manage tensions and foster cooperation among claimants in the disputed waters.
China has reiterated its stance that it will continue to conduct law-enforcement operations around Ren’ai Jiao and other areas within the Nansha Qundao, the name China uses for the Spratly Islands. These operations are aimed at safeguarding what it claims are its maritime rights in the region.
