Singapore is intensifying its efforts to drive artificial intelligence (AI) adoption among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through a range of new initiatives. These include partnerships, training programs, cybersecurity measures, and industry recognition awards. During the Asia Tech x Singapore event, Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Tan Kiat How emphasized the importance of practical AI applications for businesses, urging them to look beyond mere industry trends.
Under the expanded Digital Enterprise Blueprint (DEB), Singapore aims to bolster SME digital transformation and AI integration. Since the DEB’s inception, over 26,000 SMEs have benefited, with AI adoption skyrocketing from 4.3 percent in 2023 to an anticipated 53.5 percent by 2025. A significant aspect of this expansion involves new collaborations with companies like Grab and RSM Stone Forest IT, which will provide AI training, support, and cybersecurity resources to SMEs.
Grab has introduced a new AI initiative targeting 10,000 SMEs in the food, retail, and e-commerce sectors. This program, developed in collaboration with the Singapore University of Technology and Design, will offer free online training, webinars, and AI-focused courses. Meanwhile, RSM Stone Forest IT is set to launch a cybersecurity program that includes phishing simulation exercises to enhance the cyber resilience of 2,000 SMEs by identifying potential security vulnerabilities.
Additionally, the government has released the “AI for Enterprise Impact Playbook,” a collaborative effort by the Infocomm Media Development Authority, SkillsFuture Singapore, and Workforce Singapore. This guide aims to assist businesses in pinpointing appropriate AI solutions and identifying relevant workforce training opportunities. In a bid to celebrate successful AI integration, Singapore will also unveil the inaugural SME AI Impact Awards in 2026. These awards will honor Singapore-registered SMEs that have effectively implemented AI technologies, achieving notable operational or workforce advancements.
